Dear readers and friends of The Moscow Times,

In a world dominated by bad news, there is good news. And I want to share with you one bit of good news from my life this year. Sixteen months after the war in Ukraine broke out and The Moscow Times’ team was forced to leave Russia, my 16-year-old daughter completed all the paperwork and joined me in the Netherlands. She is now studying at an international school in Amsterdam, where her classmates come from all over the world: Egypt, India, Israel, the Philippines, the EU, North America... But her best friends are two Ukrainian boys and a Russian boy who grew up in the EU. My daughter has even started learning Ukrainian and her Ukrainian classmates have become her tutors. I am happy to see that life goes on.

But to make this life safe and sustainable, we must stop Putin and help Ukraine win. In 2023, another terrible war has begun. I am sure that the terrorists (and their sponsors) decided to attack Israel because they saw that a year and a half after Putin's troops invaded Ukraine, the aggressor was still not defeated or punished. If we don't stop Putin, other dictators and terrorists will start new wars in regions like the Caucasus, Latin America, Asia and Africa, following the bloody path that the Russian dictator paved for them.

We at The Moscow Times do our best to bring real news and in-depth analysis of what is happening in Russia to the world. One of our main goals is to inform Russians in Russia and to counter Putin's propaganda. But because we are up against an entire state with enormous resources, we need your help. Russian state TV channels and news agencies have an annual budget of $1 billion. The largest "private" Russian media and IT companies, which are in fact completely controlled by the Kremlin, have a combined budget of $10 billion. In comparison, the combined budget of 77 exiled Russian media outlets does not exceed $33 million.

But we are not giving up — and with your help we will win, because the truth is on our side. Please continue to support us!

Wishing you a wonderful and peaceful Christmas and New Year, and a speedy restoration of peace!

Yours,
Alexander Gubsky
