Twitter Lays Off Its One Russia-Based Employee

Twitter’s partnerships manager in Russia, the company’s only official employee in Russia, was laid off on Friday, as part of global cutbacks announced earlier this week. Alexey Shelestenko joined Twitter’s workforce three years ago. “It’s been an invaluable experience, friends,” he tweeted, saying that the company’s media partnerships staff is one of the worst-hit departments in Twitter’s restructuring effort.

On Thursday, Twitter announced that it is laying off 9 percent of its staff, or roughly 350 people, as part of a broader plan to make the company more appealing to potential buyers. Twitter recently aborted a search to be acquired by another company, when the presumptive $20-billion price tag proved too expensive for the market.
