This Russian
government is to spend 31.5
billion rubles ($492 million) on hosting the Winter Universiade Games in 2019 in the Siberian region of
Krasnoyarsk, the TASS news agency
reported Wednesday.
The Kransnoyarsk region is also expected to
spend an additional 12.5 billion rubles ($193 million) from its own budget.
Construction work will require 14.4 billion rubles, while 6 billion rubles will be used for the Universiade village, 3.6 billion rubles for transport infrastructure, and 7.3
billion rubles for medicine-related constructions.
Viktor
Tolokonsky, the governor of the Kransoyarsk region, called the event important both for Krasnoyarsk and Russian sport as a whole. He also stressed the importance of optimizing the region's Universiade’s budget in order to finish preparations for the competition on time.
The Universiade is an international multi-sport event for university students organized by the International University Sports Federation. The 2019 Winter Universiade Games will take place in Krasnoyarsk between March 2 and March 12, 2019.
