Russia's Soyuz Spacecraft Docks With International Space Station

Federal Space Station

The Russian spacecraft Soyuz MS-02 successfully docked with the International Space Station, the Russian space agency Roscosmos announced on Friday.

"The docking of the transport spaceship with the module 'Search' was accomplished at 12:59 p.m. Moscow time," a Roscosmos spokesperson said.

The spacecraft delivered three new crew members to the space station, Russian cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Andrei Borisenko, and American astronaut Shane Kimbrough.  They will be joining the 49th expedition to the ISS, which currently consists of Russian Anatoly Ivanishin, American Kathleen Rubens, and Takuya Onishi of Japan. The new crew is to spend 155 days on the space station.

The Soyuz spacecraft was launched on Oct. 19 from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The launch had been postponed from its original date of Sept. 23 due to a technical problem.
