The Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod has unveiled Russia's first monument to Jules Verne, depicting the 19th-century French author of science-fiction and adventure novels as a hot-air balloon adventurer, media reports said Sunday.

The bronze-painted plastic sculpture, measuring approximately 10 meters in height, was unveiled Sunday on an embankment near the confluence of the Volga and the Oka rivers, TASS news agency reported.

A life-size likeness of Verne stands in the balloon's basket, holding a telescope, the report said.
