Passengers and employees at an international airport in the Russian Urals city of Chelyabinsk were evacuated Thursday following a call with a false bomb threat, the state-run TASS news agency reported.
The alleged caller was detained while the evacuation was still under way and was being questioned by investigators, a spokeswoman for the airport's management company, Yelena Lyakhova, was quoted as saying.
"According to preliminary data, this individual had already attracted the attention of the special services," Lyakhova said, TASS reported.
Although Lyakhova maintained that check-in had resumed by early Thursday evening, a major with the regional Interior Ministry's transport police department, Yelena Yepimakhova, said investigators with bomb-sniffing dogs continued to inspect the airport later into the night, TASS reported.
The airport's website indicated that arrivals and departures were proceeding on schedule Friday morning.
