Three Russian sailors have been captured by Nigerian pirates, the Russian embassy in Abuja has confirmed.
“Releasing any more information at this time would possibly endanger the lives of the men,” embassy press attache Artyom Romanov told the Interfax news agency.
“We are doing all we can to ensure their speedy release,” he said.
Russian media outlets had reported that Greek ship Saronic Breeze had been captured while sailing close to the Benin cost on Nov. 29. According to early reports, the ship had been sailing under a Panamanian flag, and had 18 Russian and two Ukrainian nationals on board.
