Russia’s Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS) has opened a case against Apple over alleged price fixing of iphones resold on the Russian market, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Monday.
The legal action was announced in a statement on the FAS website, and is based on consumer testimony of identical price fixing of Apple’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 Plus in 15 Russian retailers.
Research shows that once the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models went on sale in Russia, most resale stockists fixed identical prices on the phones, which were held for a fixed period of time.
“Such a coincidence could be the result of coordinated pricing by Apple’s Russian resellers, which led to price fixing on the Russian market and thus so called 'recommended' prices being imposed.”
Apple have yet to comment on the case.
