Russia Delivers S-300 Missiles to Iran

Sergei Porter / Vedomosti

Russia has completed a contract to deliver the S-300 surface-to-air missile system to Iran, the Interfax news agency reported on Thursday.

The head of the Rostec state corporation, Sergei Chemezov, said previously that Russia would deliver four divisions of the S-300 system to Iran by the end of 2016.

Iran has received four divisions of the S-300PMU2 “Favorit” air defense missile system, produced by the state firm Almaz-Antey, for approximately $1 billion, according to reports.

The S-300 surface-to-air missile system is designed to defend a wide range of military and civilian objectives against cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and both strategic and tactical aircraft.
