Almost Half of Russians Fear War With the West - Poll

Ahrar al-Sham / AP

According to a new poll conducted by the independent Levada Center pollster, almost half of Russians (48 percent) fear worsening relations with the West over Syria could lead to a third world war.

Ten percent of these “seriously fear” war while the remaining 38 percent have “some fears” about an eventual military conflict between Russia and the West.

Another 52 percent of the Russians polled supported the Kremlin’s air campaign in Syria and 49 percent think Moscow should continue its involvement in the conflict.

Sixty-four percent of those polled follow the situation in Syria in the media. The poll was conducted between Oct. 21 to 24. A total of 1,600 Russian adults from 48 different regions took part in the poll.
