The five men suspected of killing opposition politician Boris Nemtsov have been granted their request for a jury trial, the state-run TASS news agency reported Tuesday.
Irina Zhirnova, the spokesperson for Moscow District
Military Court, said that the court
would begin selecting 12 jurors after Aug. 24. All five suspects
requested a jury trial.
The trial's preliminary hearings took place Monday behind closed doors, with all suspects pleading
not guilty of Nemtsov's murder.
The men are all accused of committing the murder
as an organized, paid hit worth up to 15 million rubles
($226,000).
Boris Nemtsov was
gunned down on Feb. 27, 2015 while crossing Moscow's Bolshoi
Moskvoretsky Bridge. Ruslan Mukhidinov, a 27-year-old former Chechen police
officer, is accused of ordering the hit. Mukhidinov is currently on the run from authorities.
