Moscow City Court Suspends KirovLes Case Against Navalny

Alexei Navalny

The Moscow City Court has suspended proceedings to collect more than 16 million rubles ($237,000) from opposition leader Alexei Navalny and two other defendants, the Meduza news website reported Friday.

The halt in proceedings follows a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and will hold until the Russian Supreme Court rules on the ECHR ruling.

The ECHR ruled in February that in the KirovLes timber company embezzlement case against Navalny and Pyotr Ofitserov, Russia violated Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which grants European citizens the right to a fair trial.
