The 10th annual Grand Festival of Animation has opened in Moscow with films for all ages and every taste. For nearly two weeks until Nov. 7 you’ll have a chance to see 50 animation programs for kids and adults held at 20 venues around the city. You can also meet with some of the creators, and attend all sorts of master classes and lectures. There are several festival categories: Winners — foreign films that have successful at other festivals; Premiers — Russian films that no one has seen yet; Young Russian Animation — the best films by students and film makers who are just starting out; and Films for Adults — animation for grown-ups. There will also be some oldie-but-goodies, including “Labyrinth” with a young David Bowie and a British version of “Animal House.”
All the films for children will be accompanied by voice-over translations into Russian in the halls, and films for adults will be shown in their original languages with Russian subtitles.
This is one of Moscow’s most celebrated film festivals — and a great way to keep small people happy in Moscow’s bleak weeks before the first real snow falls.
