The Islamic State terrorist organization has taken the responsibility for a recent terror attack in Russia's Dagestan that killed a police officer, the Reuters news agency reported Wednesday.
The Amaq news agency, which supports the Islamic State, posted an online statement saying its local affiliate was behind the attack, Reuters reported.
The Islamic State’s claim was also confirmed by SITE Intelligence Group, an organization that monitors the web activity of jihad groups.
The terror attack took place near Kaspiysk in Dagestan on Monday. Two cars from a police convoy were burned after an explosive device was detonated on the side of the road. As a result, one policeman died and two more were injured, the Interfax news agency reported Wednesday.
The Islamic State is a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
