Islamic State Claim Responsibility for Moscow Attack

The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group has claimed responsibility for an attack on Moscow's traffic police, online monitoring organization the Site Intelligence Group reported Thursday.

Two men armed with guns and axes were killed after assaulting a traffic police patrol office on Schyolkovskoe Shosse to the capital's northeast on Wednesday. Two officers were wounded, with one still in hospital.

IS released a video urging its followers to carry out attacks in Russia earlier this month. The unverified clip showed a masked driver shouting, “listen Putin, we will come to Russia and kill you at your homes … Oh brothers, carry out jihad and kill and fight them.” IS has also claimed responsibility for a spate of deadly attacks across Europe this summer.

Russia is currently providing air support to Syrian government forces in the fight against IS and other Middle-Eastern terrorist groups.

… we have a small favor to ask. As you may have heard, The Moscow Times, an independent news source for over 30 years, has been unjustly branded as a "foreign agent" by the Russian government. This blatant attempt to silence our voice is a direct assault on the integrity of journalism and the values we hold dear.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. Our commitment to providing accurate and unbiased reporting on Russia remains unshaken. But we need your help to continue our critical mission.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and you can be confident that you're making a significant impact every month by supporting open, independent journalism. Thank you.
