Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev has named government procurement as being among the most corrupt areas of the country’s economy, a statement from the Kremlin’s press service said Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference during a hearing of the Presidium of Russia’s Anti-Corruption Commission, Kolokoltsev named several areas of state spending as being among those “most vulnerable to criminal encroachment” in the country.
State procurement of goods, labor, and services for state and municipal needs were the areas Kolokoltsev claimed were among the most corrupt, alongside construction, road maintenance, healthcare, education, science, and culture.
The conference also proposed solutions for improving the prevention of corruption, with reparation of losses being one of the items discussed, the statement said.
Vladimir Putin announced in February that anti-corruption laws had led to the prosecution of over 8,800 state officials in 2015.
