Hundreds in Moscow Region Suffer 4-Day Power Cut

Some 1,000 people in the Moscow region are still without power after storms cut electricity supplies last Thursday.

Residents have been left without light or heating amid temperatures as low as minus 8 degree Celsius.

Thousands more are still without electricity in the Kaluga and Vladimir regions.

"This is the fourth day that my home in the Moscow suburbs has been without power. There have been a few reprises, but yesterday there was no power from 6 p.m. in the evening until 5 a.m.," the editor of Russian news website Mediazona wrote on Facebook.

"And it's not just the lights. There's no water, no heating. You can only get up 15 floors via a dark staircase. And I have to walk the dogs. Russia, 9 kilometers from Moscow. 2016."

Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry announced on Sunday night that 158 rescue and recovery teams were still working across the Moscow region.

Power will also be switched off in six districts throughout Monday to allow workers to clean ice and fallen branches from electricity lines, the ministry said on their website.

The Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Klin, Sergiev Posad, Mytishchi, and Taldom areas will all be affected.

More than 26,000 people in the Moscow, Kaluga and Vladimir regions were left without power following hail storms, the TASS news agency reported.
