FSB Regional Deputy Killed in Stavropol — Reports

RIA Novosti / Wikicommons

A regional deputy chief in Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has been found dead in his home in Stavropol, the Interfax news agency reported Tuesday.

Sergei Bondarenko was the regional deputy head of the FSB's Department for Economic Affairs for the Stavropol region in Russia's Southern Federal district.

Bondarenko's body was found with multiple stab wounds and signs of struggle, Interfax reported, citing unnamed sources. “Most likely, it was murder,” one unidentified law enforcement source told the news agency.

Bondarenko's home in the center of Stavropol is monitored by security officers around the clock. Law enforcement have not ruled out the possibility of suicide.

The FSB have not yet commented on reports of Bondarenko's death.

Bondarenko's wife Yelena serves as a deputy in the Stavropol regional legislature, and is currently campaigning for reelection.
