The production of cakes with the infamous quote by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, “There is no money. Hold on in there,” has been banned in Russia's Siberian republic of Buryatia, the FlashSiberia news website reported Thursday.
“The production of the cakes has already been stopped,” an unidentified source close to the Baikalsky Pryanik company told the news agency.
The source did not name the reason behind the move.
In May, Medvedev was asked by a local elderly woman in Crimea when state pensions would increase. He replied “There just isn’t any money now. When we find money, we’ll do it.”
“You hold on in there. Best wishes and take care!” he added. The phrase exploded on the Internet and spawned numerous parodies.
Cakes with Medvedev's quote were very popular in Buryatia, FlashSiberia reported earlier this month.
Also in June, the Russian Tele2 mobile operator placed digital banners with the slogan “Competitors, you hold on in there! Best wishes and take care!” at four buildings around Moscow.
Shortly after that, the company terminated the contract with the advertising agency and removed all the banners, the Interfax news agency reported.
