Hate Crime Activist Killed Outside Apartment

A 26-year-old campaigner against hate crimes was shot in the head and killed at the entrance of his apartment building in eastern Moscow in a contract-style slaying, investigators said Tuesday.

The Investigative Committee said it was investigating whether the campaigner, Ivan Khutorskoi, might have been killed for his activities.

It said he was attacked twice in 2005 for his involvement with an “anti-fascist movement.”
