Moscow is set to receive 20 percent of its December snowfall in the next 24 hours, the Interfax news agency has reported.
Eleven millimeters of snow is expected to hit the capital on Monday, Dec. 5, as temperatures rise to a balmy 3 degrees Celsius.
Twelve flights have already been cancelled at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, with at least 18 more facing major delays. Seven flights are already expected to be delayed on Tuesday, the Aeroflot website announced.
The snow is set to continue through Tuesday night, Interfax reported.
Some 90cm of snow has already fallen in the city this winter, suspending train routes and leaving thousands in the Moscow region without power.
The first snowfall in Moscow this year occurred on Oct. 27, the earliest recorded snow since weather observations began 137 years ago.
