Russian traditionalists have a multitude of arguments to prove that you can’t be vegetarian in Russia. One of the most popular arguments is that it is so cold in the country that without eating meat, you would literally stretch out your legs and die. We are against such a pessimistic finale and are here to tell you, based on our own experiences, that yes, you can be vegetarian in Russia. The crown jewels of Russian cuisine tend to be packed with meat, but things are changing as more people become health conscious and adopt alternative lifestyles. There is no guarantee that if you walk into a restaurant, you will get a wide assortment of vegetarian options. More often than not, vegetarian fare comes as a side dish rather than a main. A good alternative are the vegetarian specialty restaurants that are popping up across all 2018 World Cup host cities. To get you started, Trip Advisor has compiled a list of the top 10 vegetarian restaurants in Moscow, which can be found here https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g298484-zfz10665-Moscow_Central_Russia.html and here are some of our favourites https://themoscowtimes.com/articles/vegetarians-rejoice-5-great-eateries-without-meat-50823
