Tips are not mandatory in Russia and depend on the quality of service. About 40 percent of Russians regularly give tips, but 15 percent don’t give tips at all. It is most common to give tips in restaurants, bars or cafes. Tipping taxi drivers is also standard practice, while tipping gas station attendants, car wash personnel and beauty salon workers is less common. Couriers, hotel cleaners and car repairmen rarely get any tips. The standard range for tips in Russia is 5 to 15 percent and you’ll be the smoothest of customers if you leave a tip by simply saying that you don’t want change (сдачи не надо - sdachi ne nado) or leave money on the table.
