The Russian government is to raise fees for all foreign freight vehicles using the country's roads by 50 percent.

Annual tariffs are due to rise from 60,000 rubles ($900) to 120,000 ($1,800) rubles a year, while the daily fee has been increased from 385 rubles ($6) to 850 ($12) rubles, government websites reported Friday.

The changes will see Latvian and Lithuanian drivers added to the list of toll-paying truck drivers. These countries have recently introduced similar charges affecting Russian heavy goods drivers, the official announcement explained.
