Serdyukov Fired From Board of Russian Technologies

Nov. 23 2012 — 00:00

Disgraced former Defense Minister Anatoly Seryukov has been forced out of Russian Technologies, where he was fired from his position as chairman of the vast state company's advisory board.

The dismissal was announced in a presidential decree posted on the Kremlin website Thursday.

Serdyukov had been in the post since 2007, the same year he was named defense minister.

Following the revelation of a $95 million fraud case at a defense agency late last month, President Vladimir Putin removed Serdyukov from his job as defense minister. Pundits have speculated that his firing was linked to infighting among Kremlin clans jockeying for access to trillions of rubles in defense spending.

Earlier this month it was reported that Serdyukov could be made an advisor to Russian Technologies chief Sergei Chemezov after he was pushed out of the Defense Ministry. The report was denied by the company's press service.

Serdyukov had repeatedly clashed with Chemezov over the fate of defense sector firms in Russian Technologies' portfolio. In particular he had sought to hand the state's share in arms exporter Rosoboronexport to the Defense Ministry rather than to Russian Technologies, Kommersant reported Friday.

Trade and Industry Minister Dmitry Manturov was appointed as the new chairman of the board.

Russian Technologies controls about 600 companies in sectors ranging from defense to auto-making and electronics.
