International School of Moscow students will hold an all-day music marathon Friday in support of disadvantaged children. The event’s proceeds will go to BBC Children in Need and Diema’s Dream, a Russian charity that provides support to disabled orphans.

“All our students here are well aware of how lucky they are to be at such a fantastic school and use all this [musical] equipment — like the electric guitar,” said James Langford, head of the music department at the International School. “They want to do their bit for children who are less fortunate.”

Langford said the marathon will feature “a mountain of music,” as students of all ages take turns in an all-day vigil of singing and strumming. The event will finish with a finale concert at 4 p.m. in the Upper School Hall.

The event will conclude with the student body’s performance of “ISM Children in Need Song 2010.” The cheery ode to charity was written by 8-year-old student Anna Kouzmine, who won a schoolwide competition to compose its lyrics.

At the end of the day, the school will announce the total amount of money raised through students’ sponsorship forms and 100 ruble tickets to the finale concert.
