Russian air carriers have been forced to lower ticket prices due to falling demand, the RBC news website reported on Thursday.
Prices are down by 25 percent in January compared to the same period last year, the website reported.
The average price for domestic flights in the second half of January was down by 24 percent from the same period last year and prices for external flights were down by 1.5 percent, according to the Biletix ticket agency.
A Biletix spokesman said that some ticket prices decreased almost twofold, and cited the average price of a ticket to Yekaterinburg, which early last year cost 15,200 rubles but now costs 5,600 rubles.
“Air travel in some areas has become more accessible as many airlines are expanding and extending offers,” said Biletix director general Alexander Sizintsev.
It is likely that the price decline will continue in February, according to the tutu.ru tourist website.
