Three men, including a retired KGB officer, were rushed to the hospital with gun wounds after a shootout over a fence in the Rostov region, police and news reports said.
One of the men, an 81-year-old retiree, grew furious when his 44-year-old neighbor and a hired worker put up a fence that encroached on his plot of land, the police said in a statement Tuesday.
The dispute started with angry words but ended in a crossfire between several different firearms.
“The older man opened fire with a double-barrelled gun, attacking his neighbor. In response, the latter pulled out his traumatic pistol,” the statement said.
Then the pensioner fired a 1921 Walther pistol and the neighbor responded with a Vepr hunting carbine. The elderly man received unspecified wounds to his chest and pelvis, while the other two suffered shoulder injuries.
The pensioner, described by local news sites as a KGB veteran, faces charges of illegal gun possession over his unregistered Walther, the police said, without elaborating on further possible charges over the shooting.
