Nov. 14 2012 — 00:00

A Federal Security Service officer was brutally slain in his home in Dagestan as his wife and children waited helplessly, tied up, in another room, local police said Wednesday.

Four armed and masked attackers broke into the home of the unidentified 43-year-old officer around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Khasavyurt, police said in a statement.

The assailants then tied up the officer, along with his wife and two children, before grabbing 160,000 rubles ($5,000), some gold, and three mobile phones.

They then dragged the officer into the kitchen, where they stabbed him multiple times with a knife. The officer died at the scene as a result of his wounds, although Interfax said he was also shot.

The attackers then fled in the victim's car, a white Lada Priora, which was parked in front of the house.

An investigation has been opened, and a police team working at the scene has collected evidence including adhesive tape, blood and clothing, the statement said.
