A 100 ruble banknote commemorating Moscow's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 will appear in Russia next month, the TASS news agency reported Thursday, citing a Central Bank official.
20 million new commemorative banknotes, featuring symbols of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, will enter into circulation in December, said Georgy Luntovsky, the Central Bank's first deputy chairman, according to TASS.
Luntovsky said he is now discussing the design of the new banknote with the governors of Crimea and Sevastopol.
This is not the first time Russia has issued a currency unit commemorating Crimea's accession to Russia: In October last year, the Central Bank released two new 10 ruble coins featuring an image of the Swallow's Nest castle in the Crimean city of Yalta and Sevastopol's Monument to the Scuttled Ships.
