A murder suspect in the Russian city of Voronezh killed himself with a toothbrush while being transported by police from a detention center to a courthouse, the local police department said Friday.

According to the police statement, the 37-year-old suspect used the toothbrush to inflict a fatal wound in his chest. He was being taken to the court for a hearing into whether his detention should be extended.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident and will take disciplinary action against any officers found to be at fault, the statement said.
