An ice skating rink billed as the largest in Europe will open Friday with a grandiose show at Moscow's All-Russia Exhibition Center (VDNKh), the TASS news agency reported.
The surface of the rink's ice measures 20,000 square meters — 39 square meters more than the rink the exhibition center hosted last year, a spokesperson was quoted by TASS as saying.
Together with its surrounding “infrastructure,” the rink complex measures 68,300 square meters, the report said.
The rink will open to the public at 5 p.m. on Friday, and will host a large-scale ice show at 8 p.m., involving more than 150 actors and featuring a performance by Olympic pairs skating champions Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin, the report said.
Along with the opening of the rink itself, the festivities will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the first public ice rink in Russia, TASS reported.
