Twenty-six people were injured after a city bus drove off the road, skidding onto a busy sidewalk in downtown St. Petersburg Tuesday evening.
The regional branch of the Interior Ministry said the bus drove into four lampposts on the city's main thoroughfare Nevsky Prospekt, mowing down pedestrians in its path. The 53-year-old bus driver, who is currently in critical condition, is thought to have lost consciousness at the wheel.
Seven pedestrians were hospitalized following the accident, three of whom are currently in critical condition. Some 18 other pedestrians, including four teenagers, have been discharged from the hospital.
