A criminal case is being brought against a deputy in Kursk region after he was caught in possession of nearly thirty grams of marijuana, Interfax reported Monday, citing the prosecutors office.
Investigators believe that the man tore branches off a hemp bush that was growing beside a lake near Ulanok village, about 600 kilometers south of Moscow, and stored them in his garage, with the intention of later smoking them.
The deputy's identity has not been disclosed.
He has been charged with illegally acquiring and storing a significant amount of a narcotic substance without the intention to sell it, the report said.
In accordance with Russian law, the deputy could face a fine, community service or even a prison sentence if found guilty of the charges.
