Supporters and allies of Alexei Navalny paid tribute to him with church services and makeshift memorials around the world on the first anniversary of his death.

Navalny, Russia's most prominent opposition figure, died in an Arctic prison colony on Feb. 16, 2024, under unclear circumstances. His allies say he was killed on the Kremlin's orders.

On Sunday, Navalny's supporters laid flowers, signs and other items at memorials in cities across Europe as well as across Russia. Thousands of people were estimated to have visited his gravesite in Moscow to pay their respects.
