In Photos: Russia Hosts BRICS Summit in Kazan
The 16th BRICS Summit was held this week from Tuesday to Thursday in Kazan, the capital of Russia’s republic of Tatarstan.
Leaders of BRICS members like China, India, and South Africa were joined by other world leaders like UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Belarus’ Alexander Lukashenko, Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro and others.
The largest foreign policy event held in Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than two years ago, the summit was seen as a tool for the Kremlin to upend the view of Russia as an outsider and strengthen its influence in the Global South.
