In Photos: Moscow Bakes as City Sets New Daily Heat Record
Temperatures climbed to 26.2 degrees Celsius (79.16 degrees Fahrenheit) in Moscow last week Friday, making it the hottest Sept. 13 on record. Friday beat the previous record, observed on Sept. 13, 1998, by almost two degrees Celcius.
The Russian capital set another daily record on Sept. 1 when temperatures rose to 29.1 degrees C (84.38 degrees F).
Countries all across Europe have experienced unusually high temperatures this month as global warming intensifies. Places like Sweden and Norway posted their highest September temperatures in the first week of the month, and more recently, large swaths of Central and Eastern Europe have undergone a heatwave.
