Voting is underway in dozens of Russian regions and municipalities, as well as in the Moscow-annexed regions of Ukraine, for a variety of regional and city leadership positions.
The multi-day elections, which come during the 19th month of the war on Ukraine and a sweeping crackdown on political dissent, are being closely watched for any surprise upsets for the ruling party.
They are also seen by many observers as a test run for the March 2024 presidential election.
