Inside A Moscow Art Studio: Irina Korina

The Moscow Times sent photographer Albina Shaimuratova and journalist Andrei Muchnik to the studios of some of Moscow's up-and-coming young artists to see how and where they work and explore some of the connections between their spaces and their art. This week we see the sedate studio of Irina Korina and the anything-but-sedate art that was conceived there.

Irina Korina is one of the most in-demand Russian contemporary artists right now. Last year she took part in the main program of the Venice Biennale and had an installation that took up most of the atrium of the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. Albina Shaimuratova

Not long ago she rented a studio at an artists' cooperative building. IK: “This house was built in the 1990s. A lot of artists live here — they have apartments, and on the top floor they have studios.” Albina Shaimuratova

IK: “I'm just renting it for a little while. It's conveniently located, which is very important for me, since I live quite far off and need an office and studio in the center.” Albina Shaimuratova
