Saturday in Moscow: Hit the Pitch — and Do a Good Deed!

This weekend the weather in Moscow promises to be perfect — just right for a game or two of football (i.e., soccer). On Saturday afternoon join in a mini-tournament to have fun, get in shape, and help a friend.

Men, women, kids of all ages and skill levels are all welcome for a series of seven-a-side matches of 20 minutes each. The tournament will be held at CitySport, a great sports arena in the city center. All of this is to help raise funds to help a colleague and friend, Anna Smolchenko, whose unborn baby has been diagnosed with a rare heart condition. The baby will need a costly operation at birth, and we want to make sure Anna has the funds.

So come and play or cheer on your family and friends. For more information about the game, donations, and the family, see facebook.com/events/897894133667430/. See you on Saturday!

AFP Charity Football Tournament. CitySport. 9 Ukrainsky Bulvar. Metro Kievskaya. Sat. June 4 at 2 p.m.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
