Russia's Novatek Expects China to Largely Finance Yamal Gas Project

The Yamal LNG facility.

The chief executive of Russian gas producer Novatek said Tuesday that he expected China to provide at least $10 billion for the Yamal LNG project in the first half of 2015.

When asked how much China could provide, Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson said: "In the first half … more than 10 [billion dollars]."

He added that most of the financing for the Yamal project would ultimately come from Chinese banks.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. Our commitment to providing accurate and unbiased reporting on Russia remains unshaken. But we need your help to continue our critical mission.
