Moscow Times Publisher Moving to RBK

Moscow Times publisher Ekaterina Son said Wednesday that she will be moving to RBK to lead its publishing house.

Son will replace Alexei Fyodorov, the current head of RBK publishing.

A graduate of Moscow State University's economic department, Son joined the Independent Media publishing house as finance manager for The Moscow Times in 1997, later moving to senior positions at various publications within the group before returning to The Moscow Times as publisher in 2008.

Son has not announced a departure date, and a replacement for her has not been named.

Son will be the third senior executive to leave Sanoma Independent Media to work for RBK, which is controlled by billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov's Onexim group.

The other two, Moscow Times founder Derk Sauer and former Sanoma Independent Media CEO Yelena Myasnikova, earlier took senior positions at RBK.

RBK holding publishes the RBK Daily business newspaper and the RBK monthly magazine and runs RBK TV, a business television channel.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
