The Emergency Situations Ministry said a magnitude-6.7 earthquake hit a sparsely populated area in the republic of Sakha. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The ministry said in a statement that the epicenter of Thursday's quake was in Sakha at a depth of 10 kilometers. It said the temblor was barely felt in populated areas.
