The Russian segment of the World Wide Web may get a special Cyrillic domain for children intended to oppose the recently approved .xxx domain for pornographic web sites, Itar-Tass reported Wednesday.
Web sites looking for an address in the planned .дети ("children") domain will have to be cleared by moderators who will only authorize sites with content that is "interesting and useful for children," said Andrei Kolesnikov of the Coordination Center for the National Internet Domain.
"Everyone will know a site [in the .дети] domain is monitored by experts and is safe and convenient for children," Kolesnikov said. He did not elaborate on when the domain may be launched or who will supervise it.
