Alexander Shcherbak / TASS

Two people were killed on Saturday after a small plane plummeted to the ground during an air display in the Moscow region.

The pilot of the An-2 plane reportedly tried to avoid hitting any spectators after he lost control during the air show in Balashikha, before his plane hit the ground and caught fire, the state-run RIA Novosti news agency reports.

The pilot and another passenger died as a result of the crash.
