The Ford plant in Vsevolozhsk plans to halt production from the middle of November to the end of the year.
"The assembly line has stopped for economic reasons," said Artyom Yashenkov, a representative of the enterprise's trade union told the Interfax news agency. The agency reported that it had not yet received confirmation on the suspension from representatives of Ford Sollers, the joint venture responsible for manufacturing Ford vehicles in Russia.
Earlier it was reported that the Ford plant assembles automobiles four days a week. Since June 2014, the plant has been working on a single-shift basis, and approximately 700 personnel were laid off.
The Ford plant in Russia's Leningrad region was first opened in 2002. It produces three models of the Ford Focus, as well as the Mondeo sedan. Ford and the Russian company Sollers are responsible for the production of Ford vehicles in Russia, as well as the import and sale of Ford products and spare parts.
The joint venture has production facilities in Vsevolozhsk, Naberezhnye Chelny, and Yelabuga (Special Economic Zone "Alabuga").
