A court in Belgorod on Wednesday granted a petition to extend the detention of the suspected gunman in Monday's shooting spree for one month and 29 days.
Sergei Pomazun, accused of killing six people in Monday's shooting in Belgorod, told Sverdlovsk District Court that he was innocent, that he did not agree with the decision to detain him and that he would not testify, Regnum news agency reported Wednesday.
Police detained him Tuesday night after a massive manhunt. He put up armed resistance when he was caught and stabbed an officer four times with a knife.
Pomazun, a former convict, is accused of opening fire in a weapons store in Belgorod, a city 40 kilometers north of the Ukrainian border, killing six people, including three passersby.
If charged and convicted, Pomazun faces up to life in prison on murder charges. He also faces charges of stealing weapons and ammunition, the use of stolen weapons to inflict injury, and assault on a police officer.
