Russia Slams Kosovo Ruling

The Foreign Ministry said a World Court decision on Thursday that Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia did not violate international law did not provide a legal basis for Kosovo’s independence.

Russia has no intention of recognizing Kosovo despite the nonbinding ruling by the court in The Hague earlier in the day by a 9-5 majority, the ministry said in a statement.

“It is essential that the court gave an assessment of only the actual declaration and specifically said it was not addressing the broader question of the right of Kosovo to secede from Serbia unilaterally,” it said.
