A 21-year-old Moldovan woman suspected of recruiting young victims for a human trafficking ring has been detained in Moscow, the Interior Ministry announced Thursday.
The suspect was in the process of attempting to sell four women between the ages of 18 and 20 for 400,000 rubles ($11,573) when she was detained by police in central Moscow, according to a statement released on the Interior Ministry's website.
The suspect allegedly posted advertisements for fictitious, high-paying jobs online. After having lured unsuspecting women, the suspect would confiscate their passports and force them into prostitution, the Interior Ministry said.
If she is charged under article 127 of the Russian Criminal Code on the "illegal deprivation of liberty," the suspect could face up to two years in prison.
