Three men have been detained after an alleged attempt to hold an unemployed man for ransom backfired amid a dramatic roadside escape endeavor, the Interfax news agency reported Thursday.
The 37-year-old man was snatched Wednesday morning and shoved into a car outside Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport, Interfax reported, citing an unidentified law enforcement source.
Not realizing that their victim was unemployed, the kidnappers threatened him with physical violence, demanding that he come up with some money, the report said.
As the vehicle made its way down Mezhdunarodnoye Shosse, the man managed to smash the rear window and alert nearby traffic police to his plight, according to Interfax. The officers detained the three men and freed the victim.
